I was sitting in a lecture when my professor started to talk about how astrology is the biggest hoax ever. I know this wasn’t an attack on me personally, but as someone who looks at her birth chart on a daily basis, it sure felt like it. Granted, my professor does have a doctorate in astronomy so he knows a lot more than I do. And even though astrology uses heavenly bodies to predict events that happen on Earth, there is no real science in those predictions. However, people should not simply dismiss astrology altogether, because there is some value to it.
Humans have used the zodiac for thousands of years. With all the claims of astrology being a pseudoscience, it is remarkable that astrology is still as popular as ever. The public hasn’t completely turned away from astrology because many people have claimed that it is accurate to them personally. Whether it be their horoscopes coming true or something bad happening while Mercury is in retrograde, many people have had realistic experiences with astrology.
Astrology

“Astrology is meant to be lighthearted and fun, not a way to turn your entire life around.”

People putting their faith in astrology is similar to holding on to religious beliefs. If people have faith in something, then scientific reasoning won’t change their minds. Astrology often gets a bad reputation because of people who try to scam others by charging exorbitant amounts of money for psychic/astrologer readings. That’s not to say that every person who does psychic readings is out to take advantage of you; getting tarot cards or your palm read can be intriguing and fun. However, everyone should stay away from psychics who take advantage of vulnerable people by saying that they can find your missing loved one or mend your broken relationship.
Astrology shouldn’t be used as a handbook on how to deal with life, but rather as an outlet for discovering possible events and outcomes. Many people think that the horoscopes that you read in the newspaper are as far as astrology goes, when in reality, the majority of the individuals who write horoscopes for newspapers don’t specialize in astrology. That isn’t to discredit every journalist that prints daily horoscopes, because there are so many fun and interesting horoscopes that are printed in newspapers. However, you wouldn’t ask a cardiologist for tips on brain surgery. Every individual specializes in different areas. If you want to learn more about actual astrology, I would recommend reading a book or contacting someone who is an expert in the field.
Astrology is meant to be lighthearted and fun, not a way to turn your entire life around. By trying to find out more about yourself through the zodiac, you can gain some helpful insight. Astrology simply helps you understand things about yourself that you already know deep down.
