The punishment was handed down after he destroyed collared 1976 throwback uniforms the team was scheduled to wear in conjunction with a promotional giveaway.“Chris has been suspended for violating team rules, for insubordination and for destroying team equipment,” Rick Hahn, White Sox senior vice president and general manager, said in a statement. “While we all appreciate Chris’ talent and passion, there is a correct way and an incorrect way to express concerns about team rules and organizational expectations.”
Sale, who is 14-3 with a 3.18 ERA, is eligible to return Thursday against the crosstown Cubs at Wrigley Field, though Hahn would not say if the lefthander would start that game.Yanks’ Chapman to the Cubs? • The New York Yankees were discussing a trade that would send Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs as part of a swap that would bring 19-year-old shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres to the Yankees, a person familiar with the discussions told The Associated Press. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because New York owner Hal Steinbrenner had not made a decision.Chapman, who is eligible for free agency at the end of the season, has 20 saves in 21 chances this season.Torres was scratched from the starting lineup of the Class A Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Sunday.Cubs activate reliever Nathan • Chicago activated Joe Nathan from the 60-day disabled list, completing the veteran reliever’s journey back to the majors from Tommy John surgery.In a 6-5 comeback win, the Cubs made a winner of Nathan in his first game in the majors since April 2015.
The six-time All-Star, who struck out three, walked one and allowed a hit in a scoreless sixth inning, signed a one-year free agent deal in May.Jays designate Storen • Toronto has designated struggling reliever Drew Storen for assignment and recalled fellow righthander Ryan Tepera from Triple-A Buffalo.The Blue Jays acquired Storen from Washington in January for outfielder Ben Revere, hoping the former closer could be an option in late-inning situations.
