If This Then That is great for everything from managing your savings to archiving your favorite songs on Spotify, but did you know you can also use it to find free video games? There are dozens of applets (IFTTT’s name for any combination of triggers and actions used through the service) designed to help you track gaming giveaways.
After MakeUseOf ran a story focused on using IFTTT to find free games online, I went digging and found even more applets designed to help you track the latest deals available. Here’s a quick guide to the wonderful world of video games and IFTTT.

In our new series Getting It, we’ll give you all you need to know to get started with and excel at…

Free Games
There are free games to be found on pretty much any platform, and IFTTT can help you track them down. If you’re a PC gamer check out this applet, which alerts you anytime someone post on Reddit’s GameDeals hub with the word “free” in the title. You can also use applets to find free games for iOS and Android, and even specify which types of games (racing, casual, sports games, etc) you’re interested in.
Sony and Microsoft also do a great job of offering up monthly free games on their respective consoles, the PS4 and Xbox One—as long as you pay for a monthly subscription. For Xbox fans, check out these two applets to receive alerts when free games become available at the start of the month and again on the 16th. PlayStation owners should check out this applet to get a notification when free games are released each month through PS Plus.

Discounted Games
Assuming you’re willing to pay for discounted video games, there are a few more applets worth setting up to make the most of If This Then That.
To stay on top of all the latest Steam sales, use this applet, or try this one if you only care about deep discounts (80% or bust). Nintendo fans can get an alert every week when the company’s “This Week on the Nintendo eShop” email goes out, revealing new releases and special sales. Finally, this applet will let you know whenever any games are discounted by Steam, Ubisoft, or EA.
Keep Up With Your Favorite Games
Here’s one more IFTTT tip for gamers. You can use the service to keep up with your favorite games so you never miss an update. This Reddit post shows you how to create your own applet so you’ll get an alert whenever the official Twitter account for your game of choice makes an announcement. You can use it to keep up with popular online games like Overwatch and League of Legends, which often use social media to announce big new changes.
