Shadow and Act, the acclaimed film and entertainment hub for content from the African diaspora just found a new home with Blavity.
Shadow and Act, which has been around for nearly a decade has been a pillar in the film and television industry specifically when it comes to honoring projects and innovators of the African Diaspora. Though Shadow and Act used to fall under the Indiewire umbrella, when it’s former host site was sold last year, S&A broke out on its own. Now, the celebrated site has found a permanent home with Blavity, Inc.
With the acquisition of Shadow and Act into the Blavity brand portfolio, Blavity further positions itself as the leading place for Black creators to share their stories and to discover news about media that is informing their world, and add their voices and unique perspectives. S&A’s Editor in Chief Tambay Obenson said of the sale,
“The site is now in the hands of a young, dynamic, black-owned and operated company whose leaders respect and appreciate the work that has gone into making Shadow and Act what it is today and who grasp S&A culture, but who also fully understand its potential to be greater than it’s ever been, and have the resources and motivation to see that vision through, over the long term.”
With Shadow and Act in the fold, Blavity will be able to expand its reach into the world of entertainment. As we sit in a new golden age of cinema and television for people of the African diaspora, a Shadow and Act/Blavity merger was definitely the move to make.
