Blizzard later revealed that previous Summer Games skins would be available for purchase at a reduced cost, compared to this year’s new skins.
A full breakdown of what they would cost was shared by the development team.
It was hoped that the 2016 skins would also be included, one fan asked game director Jeff Kaplan: “For the new summer games even you can purchase the old skins/emotes but will these old skins/emotes be obtainable in the loot boxes or purchase only?”
Kaplan replied with the good news: “The items are also in the loot boxes.”
The Overwatch Summer Games 2017 will return from August 8 to August 29 and will feature new skins and a revamped Lucioball map.
Lucioball will be played on a Sydney map environment, with matches rotating between that and the original Rio Stadiums.
The ability to “boop” enemies has been removed by Blizzard, who have also made it so Lucio’s ultimate ability no longer pulls the ball toward the player.
Instead, it increases Lucio’s speed and the speed of his “boop”.
The Overwatch Summer Games 2017 will also introduce a second competitive mode for Lucioball, allowing players to place and rank.
