TGMC names Leader of the Quarter
Terrebonne General Medical Center has chosen Laura Melancon as its Leader of the Quarter.
Melancon has worked for TGMC for 30 years. She began her TGMC career as the infection control manager and in 2017 became the quality director in the quality department, which aims to uphold high patient standards and outcomes, the hospital said in a news release.
"Melancon is known by her staff as a team builder with an open door policy. Her proactive nature make her a natural at problem solving, and her commitment to her team are evident by her department’s high employee engagement scores," TGMC said.
Sugar-cane manager to address chamber
Jim Simon, general manager of the Thibodaux-based American Sugar Cane League, is the featured speaker at the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce Business at Lunch event on May 10.
The 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. luncheon will be held at the Bayou Country Club, 900 Country Club Blvd., Thibodaux.

Physician attends pain physicians event
Dr. Jimmy N. Ponder Jr., of the Headache and Pain Center in Gray and New Iberia, recently attended the 20th annual American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians meeting in Orlando, Florida.
The society is an organization that preserves patient access to interventional techniques for treatment of acute and chronic pain, according to Headache and Pain Center. It promotes excellence through education, research and advocacy.
The meeting included the topics of stem cell injection, regenerative medicine, minimally invasive treatment of herniated discs, the opioid prescription problem in the U.S., surgical vs. non-surgical treatment for disc problems, advances in spinal cord stimulation and radio frequency treatment of hip and knee arthritis.

Sport Clips Haircuts opens in Houma
Sport Clips Haircuts, which specializes in men’s and boys’ hair care, held a grand re-opening on April 18 in Houma’s Magnolia Crossing shopping center at 1749 Martin Luther King Blvd.
This new locally owned business is the latest of the franchise’s more than 1,700 locations across the U.S. and Canada, the company said in a news release.
“Sport Clips offers our clients the expertise of well-trained stylists in a fun, casual environment where they can enjoy watching sports on TV during their haircut,” said Jeremy Aydell, owner of the new Sport Clips.
