CLEVELAND — Don’t expect to see Mark Teixeira play any more than four days in a row during the season’s second half.

With the Yankees in an 8-0 hole in the sixth inning Friday night, Joe Girardi pulled Teixeira from the game. Teixeira, who missed much of June with a cartilage tear in his right knee, experienced significant soreness in the knee, so Girardi put him on the bench. Had the game been close, Teixeira, who was playing a fourth straight day Friday and was given Saturday off, would have remained in the game.

“As I said yesterday, it seems like on that fourth day, it kind of gets a little bit more sore,” Girardi said. “My hope was we give him a whole off day [Saturday].’’

Girardi said he expects Teixeira to be back in the lineup Sunday. “It’s important that we have him,” he said. “If it’s four out of five days, five out of six [he starts], that’s pretty good. So I just have to check with him all the time.”

Field hope for Beltran

Since missing nearly a week with tightness in his right hamstring, Carlos Beltran has started only one game in rightfield, Tuesday night in Chicago.

Will he be an outfield option when the second half starts Friday? “I sure hope so,” Girardi said. “I know he’s getting better every day. I thought he ran better yesterday.”

Girardi repeated that he is not concerned about Beltran playing in Tuesday night’s All-Star Game.

Judge to DL

Aaron Judge was placed on the seven-day minor-league disabled list after an MRI taken Saturday showed what the Yankees called a “mild PCL sprain and a bone bruise of the left knee.”

The injury occurred Friday night when Judge dived for a ball in the outfield, and he aggravated it while running out a grounder. The Yankees said the 24-year-old, who has a .261/.357/.469 slash line, 16 homers and 54 RBIs, will not participate in baseball activities “for an undetermined amount of time.”

Before Saturday’s game, Girardi said he was not necessarily buoyed by reports that Judge at least was able to leave the field on his own Friday night. Said the manager, “We’ve seen a lot of guys walk off and miss eight weeks.”

Nice AB for A-Rod

Lost a bit in Saturday’s victory was a key at-bat by Alex Rodriguez, his first since Tuesday in Chicago. He drew a two-out walk against Indians starter Danny Salazar to load the bases in the sixth and, after Austin Romine pinch ran for him, Brett Gardner hit a three-run triple that gave the Yankees a 6-5 lead.

“I certainly felt good, I felt confident, I wanted to get a good pitch to hit and knock the crap out of the ball,” said A-Rod, relegated to the bench with Beltran the primary DH at the moment. “Any time I get in there, I’m happy, I’m ready to contribute . . . My time will come. I’ll be ready when they call my name.”

Green sent down

Chad Green, who allowed four homers in 4 1⁄3 innings Friday night, was sent back to Triple-A on Saturday. He was replaced by Nick Goody, who had a 4.91 ERA in 19 appearances earlier in the season with the Yankees before being demoted.

Girardi said nothing should be read into the move, meaning it’s not a guarantee that Nathan Eovaldi will get his rotation spot back immediately after the break. Girardi said Michael Pineda, CC Sabathia and Masahiro Tanaka will start the first three post-break games against the Red Sox.

“[Ivan] Nova will start somewhere in there. We haven’t gone beyond that,’’ Girardi said. “We wanted to keep Greeny going more than how he pitched last night. To have him sit around and do nothing, we didn’t think that made a lot of sense.”
