Circle Cinema’s series of monthly silent films continues next weekend with a movie starring Oklahoma’s Tom Mix, the cowboy-movie favorite from a century ago. This month’s edition of Second Saturday Silent Films at the theater will be free admission thanks to a donation by Hughes Lumber Company, which has locations in Tulsa and Dewey, Mix’s hometown.
In addition, Dewey’s Tom Mix Museum is bringing memorabilia from its collection to the theater for those attending to view before and after the 11 a.m. Saturday screening.“Just Tony,†a 1922 silent feature starring Mix and serving as a showcase for his trusty sidekick, Tony the Horse, shows off the shooting skills and trick-riding that the star was known for in performing his own stunts.
The film will also feature live theater pipe organ accompaniment from the Circle Cinema’s restored 1928 model, provided by Bill Rowland of the Sooner State Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society.Mix, who served as a lawman in Dewey in the early 1900s prior to his film stardom, has a medallion on the sidewalk in front of the theater on its Oklahoma Walk of Fame.
