Michiganders went to the polls today to vote in the state's 2017 primary election. The biggest races include primary elections for Detroit's mayor, city council and city clerk. Michigan's voters will also weigh in on candidates for the House of Representatives' 1st and 109th districts. Michigan House of Representatives 1st district: The winner advances to the November general election to fight for the Democratic-leaning seat held by former state Rep. Brian Banks, D-Harper Woods, who resigned in January after pleading guilty to a bank fraud charge.
Michigan House of Representatives 109th district: Marquette city commissioner Sara Cambensy wins the Democratic primary, advancing to the November general election. The Democrats are hoping to replace state Rep. John Kivela, who committed suicide after being arrested in May for drunk driving.
Detroit Mayor: Mike Duggan and Coleman Young II will face off in November's general election to be the next mayor of Detroit. Here's how each of them fared.
Detroit city council: Nearly all Detroit City Council incumbents easily advanced to the November election tonight, but the council's second-ranking member is on the ropes.
Detroit city clerk: Voting-rights activist Garlin Gilchrist will take on incumbent Janice Winfrey. The city clerk's office came under fire last November during the presidential election.
