Editor's note: A previous version of this story misquoted Donald Trump's Mars sign. He was born with Mars in Leo.
Donald Trump’s future, astrologers say, is written in the stars, and they’re predicting Monday's total solar eclipse will have serious consequences for the 45th president and for the country.
The movement of stars and planets have an impact on people, they say, and suggest that the Aug. 21 eclipse could be transformative for the nation and President Donald Trump.
"I am genuinely concerned about the future of our country and beyond with all of that is happening in Trump's astrological chart. He and our nation are at a tipping point with this eclipse," said Rebecca Gordon, a New York-based astrologer and author who writes for Harper's Bazaar.

Trump was born on June 14, 1946, during a lunar eclipse. Though his sun sign is in the astrological sign of Gemini, he has Leo rising at 29 degrees on the star Regulus, and Mars is in fiery Leo, said Gordon.
Regulus (the royal star) on his rising and Mars poses a strict royal code of conduct, that if not adhered, can produce ruinous set-backs, she said.
His chart, Gordon said, is filled with “fire and fury” that is essentially being triggered by the degree of this eclipse – the same words he used to describe how America would respond to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s escalating threats of nuclear attack. The Eclipse presents a steep challenge for Trump to change course. Eclipses also tend to usher in sweeping change, especially those like the one we'll see Aug. 21 at 29 degrees of Leo, which aligns precisely with the star Regulus on Trump's ascendant as well as his Mars.
"This is certainly the most crucial time in his life as this Eclipse will peel back the curtains and reveal hidden truths as we have seen already in the months leading up to this eclipse," Gordon said.

The last time there was this kind of total solar eclipse, then-President Bill Clinton testified before a grand jury investigating his conduct and allegations of an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. It led to his impeachment in the U.S. House in December of that year. But early in 1999, the Senate did not get the votes needed to impeach.
“In this eclipse cycle, it has a pattern throughout presidencies and speaks primarily about abuses of power and how people have overstepped their boundaries in positions of power,” Gordon said.

“It’s interesting to note that Robert Mueller, the one who was involved in the Clinton trials, also is investigating Trump. ... There’s evidence in the eclipse cycle that he could indict Trump."
Mueller is special counsel appointed to lead an investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
“For Trump," Gordon said, "this eclipse falls on his Mars, the planet which rules expressions of anger and power. Hence, we see the demeanor he has when speaking about North Korea, and overall sense of animosity and rage. Trump and Kim happen to have their planet Mars in direct opposition to each other, therefore, the eclipse falls on Trump's Mars and opposes Kim's Mars, and so conflicts can escalate fast in this dangerous duo (as we see they have already.)”

The nature of his eclipse will incite a need to change direction entirely and if he does not, there can be far-reaching implications, she said.
Gordon predicted that hidden information, possibly tied to the Russia investigation, will be revealed near Jan. 31, as well as around Feb. 15 when the next set of eclipses show up. These two also mirror the eclipses that occurred when Clinton was acquitted.
"An eclipse happens and the truth is revealed — curtains peel back and we are seeing often the dark underbelly " she said. "This eclipse family has everything to do with abuses of power and especially within presidents and royal families."

Shelley Ackerman, a New York-based astrologer, says this eclipse cycle harkens back to the total solar eclipse of February 1979. Shortly before, the Ayatollah Khomeini seized power in Iran. A few weeks later, the Three Mile Island nuclear disaster occurred in Pennsylvania.
“Of course, events happen not just on the day of the eclipse, but kind of circle around it a few months in either direction,” Ackerman said. “In 1979, we had Three Mile Island, so nukes were very much in the news. We have the whole threat of a nuclear situation with North Korea is lingering right now.

“So this is a biggie. Eclipses have historically coincided with the birth and death of monarchs, the beginnings and ends of particular eras, and of course, it hits Donald Trump’s chart in a big way. And we’re seeing that now. Look at him. You know, he’s under fire.”
And it’s been 99 years since a total solar eclipse’s path of totality has spanned the entire continental U.S. as this one will.
“This is the first one since 1918 that has crossed the country in this way,” she said. “If you think about what was going on at this time in 1918, the Spanish flu was raging, Word War I was at its height.
“It wasn’t all bad, though. That was when the standardization of time became the norm. The whole time thing was a very big event. The time zones were put together. And, I also believe that 1918 was the year that the first U.S. airmail service was established between New York, Philadelphia and D.C. It’s a big, big deal.”

She pointed to last weekend’s civil unrest in Charlottesville, Va., and said that’s evidence of the power of the coming eclipse already at work.
“We’re seeing the eclipse already,” she said. “Look at this, our country is torn apart. The alt right saying, ‘Oh, the left is OK with people of color outnumbering the rest of us,’ ” she said, referencing the far-right group whose ideology supports racism, populism and white nationalism.
“This is a question: Does this eclipse trigger yet another layer of bringing into balance the sin that was slavery that started this country? It seems to be highlighted right now. There’s a whole group that believes not only that slavery is fine, but the complete mistreatment of anyone who isn’t white is OK, too.
“It feels like a combination of the Civil War and the next American Revolution revving up again.”
Astrologer Samuel F. Reynolds of New York also sees civil unrest related to race and power playing heavily into this eclipse.
“So what I discovered just the other day is that Nat Turner’s rebellion happened on Aug. 21, 1831," he said. "And that was interesting to me because that’s the exact day of the anniversary eclipse that we’re expecting Monday."

On that day, Nathaniel (Nat) Turner led the nation’s largest and longest slave rebellion in Southampton County, Va. About 50 white people were killed during the insurrection. Retaliation for the uprising was fierce and long-lasting. Turner was hanged, as were many of the other slaves who rebelled, and a wave of harsh new laws were enacted that prohibited slaves from being taught to read and write. It effectively killed a budding Virginian abolitionist movement, too.
The rebellion came just two weeks after an Aug. 7 total solar eclipse and two days before an Aug. 23 lunar eclipse.
“What was doubly interesting for me is that where he had his revolt in Southampton is 68 miles from Charlottesville, Va.,” he said. “That’s really only an hour’s drive from where this lightning rod of racial division and discord has surfaced.
“It is an impactful moment in our history. It means to me that some of the unresolved issues around race, around inequality are surfacing, and it makes sense that it would happen in Virginia, where it was such a lightning rod before.”
Reynolds noted that in 2024, another total solar eclipse will crisscross a large part of the continental United States in the opposite direction.

Want to witness the eclipse? Watch out for bogus glasses
Solarfest 2017 will be here on Aug. 21. But experts are warning about some solar glasses that might not meet safety guidelines. Wochit
“It’s going to form a big X over our nation (when the path of 2024 eclipse is superimposed with a map of this year’s total solar eclipse’s path of totality). That makes sense. It’s an X that marks the spot, and the X resembles a Confederate flag.
“So, that’s ostensibly what it seems to be boiling down to, but it’s deeper than that and it has been for a long time. Coming back to Nat Turner, it’s summoning that issue again. His revolt forever changed the dynamics of what was happening with enslavement. It led to more controls, and slave patrols to capture runaways, which also was a precedent that related to police.”
As for Trump, Reynolds said, "I think he's going to experience a lot more heat, literally, I am not one of the astrologers who believes this all bodes ill for him. But it may bode ill for us, meaning that, for example, he may find a way to come to feel more fortified and stronger.
"So what’s one way Donald Trump would come to feel fortified and stronger post-eclipse? One way that could happen is if he assumes more power or has some reason to demonstrate more power, which could be in a war. ... North Korea, possibly. ... I do think we’re building toward some kind of fray."
Kristy Robinett, a Michigan-based psychic/medium who uses energy readings to inform her astrological predictions, said she's not convinced war is looming.
"Astrological energy seems to suggest more conflict and more violence, and that things will be shaken up, and it goes with the whole Mueller thing, too," she said. "But are we going to war? I don’t think so. I think we’re going to see more civil unrest, though."
Because Mercury is in retrograde during this eclipse, Robinett said some of the biggest effects of this astrological event might be more muted.
"If it wasn’t in retrograde, I’d be a little more worried, honestly," she said. "I think this retrograde kind of takes the edge off the eclipse, and softens it a bit."
It also might mean that the Mueller investigation into Russian meddling could be stymied.
"Because Mercury is in retrograde, things are going to be pushed underneath the rug and impeachment proceedings won’t necessarily happen, but new players will be added to the game," she said.
Still, Robinett said she'd advise the president to get a check up and take extra precautions in the months ahead.
"I do think that there’s going to be some health issues for him," she said, possibly related to his heart or vascular system. "I said this last year that I’m kind of concerned that around June 2018 and again in November 2018, that there’s going to be bigger issues happening than what we’re seeing in the solar eclipse. I do think there will be an attempted assassination – possibly even during the solar eclipse time – but I think it’s attempted.

"We’ve seen eclipses for a lot of major political events, like Clinton’s impeachment, the assassination attempt on Reagan, the assassination of Kennedy, the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I want to say Roosevelt died during an eclipse time, too.
"We don’t just see it on just that day, we see it for the next six months — so the next six months are going to be a little bit like those outbursts of energy on a global level, not just the U.S."
The first total solar eclipse to take place in the continental United States since 1979 is coming this summer, and sky gazers from around the world are planning trips to a roughly 70-mile-wide-swath of the country where the eclipse can be seen in totality. Detroit Free Press

Born on an eclipse
Being born during an eclipse is seen in astrology as a sign of one's ability to rise to great power, fortune or fame, though it also imposes high stakes, that can swing dramatically either way depending on the choices made.
"Many people in royal families, and royalty around the globe — presidents, popes, famous people — many of them were born on an eclipse, whether it's a lunar eclipse or a solar eclipse," Gordon said, rattling off a list of eclipse babies that includes Prince Charles and his ill-fated first wife, Princess Diana; Prince William and his wife, the duchess of Cambridge.
"Many of them die on eclipses, too. There’s this enormous legacy of royalty born on eclipses and who die on eclipses and all of their major life events happen around eclipses," Gordon said.
"Even Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, was born on an eclipse, and he’s sort of like a modern-day king. Pope Francis was born three days after a solar eclipse, too."
