With attacks on the gay and transgender communities reaching shocking new lows lately, the need for an inside look at the issues facing LGBT people feels greater than ever. Denver Film Society’s Cinema Q Film Festival, which returns to the Sie FilmCenter July 21-24, offers a curated sampler of the drama, documentaries, comedies and political films coming out of the community, including a seven-film shorts package (examining everything from AIDS to aging) and a Filmmaker Focus panel on lesbian voices — featuring former Denver Post film and theater critic Lisa Kennedy. Various screenings through July 24 at 2510 E. Colfax Ave. $12 per film or $85 for full festival pass. Call 720-381-0813 or visit denverfilm.org for tickets.
