On Monday night, the Dodgers kicked off a three-game homestand against the Pittsburgh Pirates by scoring 12 runs, including a six-run first inning. This offensive performance led to the team’s third straight win and was the sixth time this season the team has scored more than 10 runs in a game this season.
During the first six games in May, the club is averaging 7.83 runs a game, good enough for best in the MLB during that span. Los Angeles looks like they’ve had an offensive spark since the call up of Cody Bellinger. The team has not looked back with the sticks, which has led to this winning streak.
Clubhouse competition generally turns a good team into a great team, and I believe this is a big reason for this offensive explosion. Since Cody Bellinger’s call-up, he’s produced video game-like numbers and is now tied for the team lead in home runs (5) and ranks in the top 5 on the team in RBI while also bringing home his first ever player of the week honors.
Along with Bellinger, Chris Taylor has continued his hot hitting through spring in his limited playing time this season. Taylor is hitting just a shade under .400 (.395) with three home runs (including a grand slam on Monday night). Taylor has really begun to put the pressure on other players on the roster to produce and has even started to exert pressure on the front office regarding sending him back down to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The two young Los Angeles prospects have led the team to a historic run that has been ranked in the top 10 for best offensive stretches over a ten game period.
Most recently, the Dodgers scored 71 runs in a 10 game period during August of last season, and that currently is tied for 4th best in franchise history.
The Dodgers have scored eight or more runs the last three games and according to Eric Stephen of True Blue LA, the last time the Dodgers have scored eight runs or more in four straight games was during their 2013 season when they went on a 42-8 run in during that summer.

It’s definitely an exciting time to be at Chavez Ravin for Dodger fans. With budding stars like Corey Seager and Cody Bellinger, there’s plenty to be excited about in Los Angeles. Despite the Dodgers seemingly starting off to a slow start to the season, the team still had a top 6 record in all of baseball.
