Dan Abrams‘ Mediaite will expand its coverage to include sports, entertainment, food, original video and columnists. A new team has been hired and changes will be implemented next week.
The site’s founder made the announcement in a blog post, explaining that he is “finally at a point financially where I can invest in taking Mediaite to the next level.”
Mediaite launched in 2009 and has become a popular site for political and media news junkies, but Abrams hopes to “begin the process of transforming Mediate into a more mainstream media property.”

Abrams said Mediaite is on track to have one of its highest traffic months in history. A new social media director has been hired and John Ziegler will be the New York-based site’s new conservative contributor, but Abrams is still looking for new members of his sales team.
“This business has endured the vicissitudes of a typical media start-up and the down times have been as frightening as they have been frustrating. So I’ll be the first to admit it feels wonderful to be on the other side of the valley now propelling forward on solid ground,” Abrams wrote.
