HONOLULU (KHON2) - Comedian Trevor Noah is on Oahu getting ready to perform at the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena.
The host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" landed in Honolulu Friday afternoon and wasted no time gathering material for his Saturday night show.
"Who I meet and what stories they tell me, and then from there, hopefully the show will have enough of a local flavor and at the same time current events just to spice it up and make it different," he said. "What's interesting about Hawaii, although it's part of the United States, it completely feels like a different place. Culturally, there's a different feeling. The people have their own vibe, their own rhythm."
Noah says he's been keeping a close eye on news coming out of Hawaii, especially during Hurricane Lane. One thing he might talk about in his show: the false missile alert from January.
"What I love about Hawaii's news is you really don't have anything crazy happening in Hawaii so when you had missile scare, that was really interesting, because i mean you went from being the most chilled out place in the world to the most panicked place for like half an hour," Noah said.
"What I found really fantastic was all the politicians coming out in their Hawaiian shirts, explaining it. Just like a very chilled out look for a really stressful situation, which clearly shows you that Hawaii doesn't have clothing for panicked situations. I think we need to work on that. Like,  think the Hawaiian shirt is great for the weather, but if something bad goes down, we need to find some suits," he added.
Noah says he enjoys meeting locals and getting to know Hawaii's unique lifestyle.
"I've learned from Hawaii there are many different ways to live life. I grew up thinking I knew Spam, and then I came here, and I realized I've only scratched the surface of Spam," he said. "So I hope that in my life, I continue to explore this beautiful meat-like substance and take it with me on the journey that I call life. Because poke, you can have in many places. I mean obviously, the best poke is here, but what you guys do with Spam, man. What you guys do with Spam."
The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are still available through Ticketmaster.
Prices range from $35.50 to $95.50.
