We see you out there, checking your watch to see if it’s Thursday yet, when the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament begins.
But if you’re that excited for some tourney action, look no further than Tuesday and Wednesday. The First Four games will be played, and though you might scoff at the idea of the play-in contests, here are four reasons why you should tune in.
1. They’re still technically NCAA Tournament games
These aren’t exhibitions or preseason contests. In the words of Dick Vitale, this is March Madness, baby!!! Actual teams playing to move on in the actual tournament! And these aren’t just college squads all playing for the right to be squashed by a top seed — two of the games are fights for a pair of 11-seeds.
2. Providence is coming in somewhat hot
The Friars beat Butler in mid-February to kick off a six-game winning streak that also included a win over Creighton. Although they then lost to that same Bluejays squad in the Big East Tournament, this is a team that also boasts a win over tourney darlings Rhode Island.
3. Wake Forest’s John Collins looks like a future NBA first-rounder

The 6-foot-10 sophomore has been a star for the Demon Deacons. In a breakout season, he’s averaging 18.9 points per game and nearly 10 blocks.
4. They’ll help you scout for your bracket
Here’s a fact you may not know: In every year the tournament has held “First Four” games, at least one team has advanced beyond the actual first round of 64. Maybe you’ll find that diamond in the rough for your bracket simply by watching.
Here’s the schedule (all times Eastern). And if you need help finding truTV? We’ve got you covered:
